Kinds of Equipment Used in Radiology Imaging

If you’ve ever had an X-ray, MRI, or any other type of radiology imaging done, you may be wondering what the pieces of equipment used in these procedures are and what they are powered by.

This post will give you a little bit of information about a few of the most common types of equipment used in diagnostic imaging, particularly their components and uses.

X-ray Machine

An X-ray equipment is an intricate piece of machinery that consists of four main parts: the X-ray tube, the transformer, the control panel, and the tube stand. The tube emits X-rays, which get absorbed by your soft tissues, bones, and other structures when they enter the body, thus appearing white on the film.

Conditions that can be diagnosed by X-ray imaging include fractures, dental problems (e.g., tooth cavity), infections in bones, and abnormal masses.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners have four components: the magnet; the radiofrequency transmitter and receiver; the gradient coils; and the computer.

MRI scanners are instrumental in the diagnosis of a vast range of conditions, including brain tumors and injuries, developmental abnormalities, stroke, and infections. They can also be used to reveal diseases of the heart, organs in the pelvic cavity, and other structures.

Ultrasound Machine

An ultrasound machine has the following components:

Handheld transducer probe – This sends high-frequency (1 to 5 megahertz) sound waves, which travel into the body and hit a boundary between tissues; and picks up the reflected sound waves and relays them to the machine.

Central processing unit (CPU) – This is responsible for processing all the calculations and information as well as the electrical power supply for itself and the transducer probe.

1. Video monitor – This displays the image from the data processed by the CPU.

2. Keyboard/cursor – This inputs data as well as takes measurements from the display.

3. Disk storage device – This stores the acquired images

4. Printer – This prints the image from the displayed data

Ultrasound machines are used for:

Diagnostic ultrasound – to check for abnormalities in your organs, such as the heart, liver, kidneys, or female reproductive organs like the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes

Pregnancy ultrasound – to monitor the fetus’ growth and development Radiology Imaging Near You in Jacksonville, Lake Mary, & Pensacola, FL If you’re in search of a reputable radiology imaging facility near you in the Jacksonville, Lake Mary, or Pensacola area in Florida, visit us here at Innovative Open MRI & Imaging.
